Privacy Policy

Last updated June 12, 2026

Your novel is yours. Pyrus is built so the people who make it cannot read your writing.

Pyrus is a writing app for novelists. This policy explains what Pyrus does and does not do with your information.

What Pyrus stores

Pyrus stores the work you create in it: your novels, chapters, scenes, characters, locations, notes, photos you attach, and saved chats with Pyrus. It also stores a small profile, the name and identifier from Sign in with Apple, so the app can greet you and keep your work tied to your account.

Where it is stored

Your work is stored on your device and synced through your own private iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit. It lives in your personal iCloud database. The developer of Pyrus has no access to it and no server that receives it. Syncing and storage are governed by Apple's iCloud terms and privacy policy.

Sign in with Apple

Pyrus uses Sign in with Apple to sign you in. Pyrus stores the user identifier Apple provides and, if you share it, your name, both only on your device and in your private iCloud. Pyrus does not collect your email address and does not use this information for advertising or tracking.

How AI works in Pyrus

Pyrus has two ways to use AI, and you choose which, or you can turn it off entirely.

On-device. By default, Pyrus uses Apple's on-device models to suggest where notes belong, summarize scenes, and answer questions about your novel. This processing happens entirely on your device. Your text does not leave the device for this.

Your own cloud AI (optional). If you choose to add your own API key for a provider (OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google Gemini), then when you use that cloud model, the relevant text from your novel is sent to that provider using your key so it can respond. Your key is stored only in your device's Keychain and is never sent to the developer of Pyrus. What the provider does with the text you send is governed by that provider's own privacy policy and your agreement with them. Pyrus does not add any cloud AI of its own; this path exists only if you supply a key, and you can remove the key at any time in Settings.

What Pyrus does not do

Pyrus does not include analytics, advertising, or third-party tracking. It does not sell or share your data. It does not send your writing to the developer. There is no Pyrus account server.

Children

Pyrus is not directed to children and does not knowingly collect information from children.

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new date.
